This Saturday, March 1st, 2025, the Senate floor will be voting on the fate of SB 5 – Game Commission Reform. While the Department of Game & Fish staff are doing a good job, our current wildlife management system is outdated and underfunded, and our State Game Commission has been politicized. That’s why we’re urging you to contact your Senator and let them know you support SB 5!
You can find your Senate District and Senator here.
We must use the momentum of this session to pass a reform package to give the Department of Game & Fish the tools, authority, and funding to build a 21st-century wildlife management system for future generations. In New Mexico, we cherish wildlife, which is deeply tied to our cultural traditions and helps sustain our $3.2 billion outdoor recreation economy through hunting, fishing, birdwatching and more.
This is not a partisan issue. Across the board, every day, New Mexicans are eager for Game & Fish reform; this was reflected on Wednesday, February 26th, 2025, when SB 5 passed out of Senate Finance with 9-1 bipartisan support.
Contact your Senator and make your voice heard! Together, we can ensure that we have a New Mexico that protects our most vulnerable species, while also managing wildlife for hunting and angling, that have been an integral part of New Mexico culture for generations, while creating a truly modern Department of Game & Fish whose mission would include the conservation and protection of all species.
