Experienced Conservation Leader Demis Foster named as New CVNM Executive Director

(Santa Fe, NM) – Conservation Voters New Mexico (CVNM) announced today that Demis Foster has been selected as the organization’s new executive director. Foster will join CVNM at the end of the month after more than 20 years of experience in the non-profit and environmental sectors. Most recently, she was the Santa Fe Director for the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance.

Sustainable building tax credit extended for 5 years

(SANTA FE, NM) – Governor Susana Martinez signed Senate Bill 14, jointly sponsored by Senator Peter Wirth and Representative Carl Trujillo, into law on April 1. The bill extends New Mexico’s sustainable building tax credit for 5 years.
“The sustainable building tax credit has proven to be a critical incentive for the home building and construction industries in adopting energy efficient building practices,” said Sarah Propst, CVNM Board Chair. “Energy efficient homes also save New Mexicans money on their utility bills. 100% of anti-conservation bills defeated for 9th year in a row

(SANTA FE, NM)— For the 9th year in a row, Conservation Voters New Mexico (CVNM) and allies successfully defeated every anti-environmental bill in the state legislature during the 2013 New Mexico Legislative session.
Of note, CVNM and allies defeated multiple attempts in both chambers to sunset the Water Quality Control Commission (WQCC). Extending the WQCC is a great win for clean water in New Mexico. The WQCC is the only entity in New Mexico authorized to enact rules pursuant to the federal Clean Water Act or to set water quality standards. The Commission also approves variances for water quality regulations and hears appeals of water pollution permits. [Read more]
