(Santa Fe, NM) – Conservation Voters New Mexico (CVNM) announced today that Victor Reyes has been selected as the organization’s new political director. Reyes will join CVNM on July 8. Most recently, Reyes worked on the fundraising team of the Alan Webber for Governor campaign.

“I’m honored to join the CVNM board, staff, and community of supporters,” says Victor Reyes. “I look forward to advancing CVNM’s strategic and effective legislative and electoral programs to the next level so that we can pass strong policies that protect New Mexico’s air, land, and water.”

Reyes has long demonstrated his passion for engaging the Southwest’s diverse populations in democracy and the civic process, having worked with organizations such as the National Hispanic Institute and the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund. As the district director for Texas Representative Mary Gonzalez, Reyes worked to implement infrastructure projects for colonias and other rural communities. He has worked on successful political campaigns across the southwest at the state and local level.

“I am proud that Victor will be representing CVNM in the Roundhouse and the conservation community,” says Demis Foster, CVNM Executive Director. “His energy, varied experience, and passion for building relationships are exactly what CVNM needs to make further progress on important conservation issues in New Mexico.”

Reyes is experienced in developing legislative priorities, analyzing legislation, managing programs, and cultivating productive relationships between elected officials, organizations, opinion leaders and constituent groups. He has worked for Congressman Charlie Gonzalez, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and most recently he served as the district and legislative director for Texas Representative Mary Gonzalez. Reyes has earned several awards including the National Hispanic Institute’s Most Distinguished Male Award, the Black El Paso Democrats’ Emerging Leader Award, and the Mary Beeman Award for Government and International Affairs. He is bilingual with Spanish being his first language.

CVNM is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization connecting the people of New Mexico to their political power to protect our air, land, and water for a healthy Land of Enchantment. CVNM does this by mobilizing voters, winning elections, holding elected officials accountable, and advancing responsible public policies.
