NMOGA Coordinates to Distort Public Discourse on Climate Action
Polling shows New Mexican support of climate action at all-time high

Santa Fe, N.M. – Today, Conservation Voters New Mexico (CVNM) applauds ProgressNow NM for shining a light on the New Mexico Oil and Gas Association’s (NMOGA) coordination with Power the Future, a DC-based anti-clean energy group, to distort public discourse and policy-making processes on climate action. In response, CVNM Political & Legislative Director Ben Shelton released the following statement:
“Despite their claims that they are working productively with the Lujan Grisham administration to put strong safeguards in place, the New Mexico Oil and Gas Association’s coordination with Koch Brothers-style attack dog Power the Future tells a very different story,” says Ben Shelton, CVNM Political & Legislative Director. “NMOGA is doing real harm to the public debates our state is having on climate action for the first time in eight years – when New Mexicans’ support for climate action is at an all-time high. It’s clear that NMOGA – like Power the Future – does not have the interests of our state and our communities at heart. In addition, in the face of huge advertising and marketing spending by groups like NMOGA, support for methane rules has jumped 10% in the past two years. Clearly, NMOGA is out of step with the future New Mexicans want and they need to come clean about their dirty tactics.”
