CVNM Statement in Response to Passage of Funding for Public Broadcasting

October 2, 2025

Overnight, the state legislature passed House Bill 1, appropriating funding to critical public programs that have been stripped of support by Congress and the Trump Administration. Included in the legislation is $5.6 million in dedicated funding for public broadcasting, and $430,000 to support public radio and television in Indigenous communities. The state appropriations fall on the heels of a federal government shutdown due to stalled negotiations in Congress, and an unpopular deeply partisan budget package

Las Cruces and Santa Fe have ranked choice voting, allowing voters to cast ballots for multiple candidates in a given race. As a result, CVNM has issued dual endorsements for several races, encouraging voters to support all viable candidates running on pro-environmental platforms.

CVNM Announces Endorsements of Pro-Climate and Pro-Democracy Candidates In Albuquerque Municipal Election

Conservation Voters New Mexico (CVNM) proudly endorsed a slate of pro-climate and pro-conservation candidates in the Albuquerque City Council and Mayoral races. The endorsement decision follows a rigorous process to vet eligible candidates, including questionnaires and interviews. Among those endorsed includes incumbent climate champion Mayor Tim Keller. During Mayor Keller’s tenure, Albuquerque became the first city in the nation to adopt the Justice40 initiative, set a goal to be net-zero emissions by 2050, and became one of the top 5 solar cities in the country by committing to 100% renewable power in 2025.

CVNM Statement in Response to EPA Announcement Gutting Endangerment Finding

Conservation Voters New Mexico Condemns Final Budget Reconciliation Bill

July 3, 2025

President Trump’s budget bill cleared the House on a final and narrow vote of 218-214, concurring with changes made in the U.S. Senate earlier this week. All of the House Democrats and two Republicans, Representative Fitzpatrick (PA) and Representative Massie (KY) voted “no.” The legislation now heads to Trump’s desk for signing, despite widespread backlash and the legislation’s numerous devastating provisions and tremendous fiscal impact. Conservation Voters New Mexico Statement on Political Assassinations in Minnesota

June 17, 2025

On June 13th 2025 America witnessed a horrific political assassination of Minnesota House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark at their home. State Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette were wounded in a separate attack at their home. The suspected assassin has been identified and a search is underway, with a shelter-in-place order in effect. According to police, the attacker may have been planning to target “No Kings” protests scheduled today across Minnesota and the country.
