Next Tuesday, January 28th, at 9:00 am, the Senate Conservation Committee meets, and we are hitting the ground running. Four of our priority bills are on the docket, and we’d love for you to attend in a show of support! The four bills up are:
- SB 4 Clear Horizons & Greenhouse Gas Emissions – codifies the Governor’s 2019 executive order and puts the state on a path to reduce fossil fuel emissions.
- SB 21 Pollutant Discharge Elimination Systems Act – will provide the NM Environment Department (NMED) authority to administer and enforce the federal Clean Water Act in NM.
- SB 22 Water Quality & Pollution – gives NMED the authority to set up a permitting program for surface waters in NM that no longer have federal Clean Water Act protections.
- SB 23 Oil & Gas Royalty Rate Changes – aims to establish a new royalty rate range of 20% to 25% for productive state trust land leases in southeastern New Mexico, potentially generating $50 to $84 million annually.
The more people we have in attendance in support of these bills, the better. An overwhelming show of support from the community for these critical bills will continue their momentum.
