Department of Energy Announces Rollout of Home Energy Rebate Program
Eligible New Mexicans can save up to $14,000 on energy efficient appliances at point of purchase

ALBUQUERQUE – On Tuesday, September 3, the Department of Energy (DOE) announced the rollout of New Mexico’s Home Energy Rebates program thanks to investments from the Biden-Harris Administration’s Inflation Reduction Act. The announcement falls two weeks after the second anniversary of the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, the nation’s largest investment in on-the-ground climate solutions in the nation’s history.

DOE Deputy Secretary David Turk celebrated the announcement with state and federal leaders, including U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller, and state legislators. New Mexico’s Home Energy Rebates program is the first in the nation to enable low-income renters and homeowners to take advantage of cost savings at point of purchase, creating more equitable pathways for consumer cost savings. In response, Conservation Voters New Mexico (CVNM) and the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) issued the following statements:

“Today’s announcement marks an important step to ensure that all New Mexicans have access to clean energy solutions. New Mexico is leading by example by making consumer cost-savings available to low-income homeowners and renters at retail stores. Last year, 3.4 million families saved $8.4 billion on clean energy and energy efficiency investments thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act. New Mexico’s Home Energy Rebates program will ensure that more of our families can make the needed upgrades to their appliances and homes to save them even more on their utility bills. We applaud the Department of Energy, the Biden-Harris Administration, Congress, retailers, low-income community advocates, and state leaders for making today’s announcement possible.” – Demis Foster, CVNM Chief Executive Officer

“Today is a great day for New Mexicans! The launch of New Mexico’s Home Energy Rebates program was made possible thanks to the investments secured in the Inflation Reduction Act to deliver on President Biden’s Affordable Clean Energy Plan. This home energy rebates program is a crucial step forward in helping families and communities– especially low income renters and homeowners– save money on home energy upgrades and appliances, reduce their energy bills, make their home more comfortable and valuable while shrinking their carbon footprint. We are thrilled to see the continued impacts of the Inflation Reduction Act and the commitment to building a clean energy economy that lowers costs for consumers, tackles the climate crisis and centers equity.” – Sara Chieffo, VP of Government Affairs at LCV
