CVNM’s Position on Ranked Choice Voting
To further the expansion of democracy in New Mexico, CVNM has joined the chorus of citizens and organizations calling for the adoption of Ranked Choice Voting for Albuquerque municipal elections.
Ranked Choice Voting, a system where voters simply rank candidates in order of preference on their ballot, has already been successfully implemented in Santa Fe and Las Cruces. Voters find it simple, fair, and effective, reporting high satisfaction rates with its easily navigable system that more accurately represents voter preferences. CVNM believes that improved representation not only empowers voters to participate but also strengthens confidence in Albuquerque’s elections, while reducing polarization. Ranked Choice Voting can also help Albuquerque save tax dollars by eliminating costly runoff elections.
Furthering the adoption of Ranked Choice Voting in New Mexico is a core component of CVNM’s mission to connect people to our civic process and political power.
