STEVE PEARCE NAMED TO STATE LCV’S 2018 “DIRTY DOZEN IN THE STATES”
$500k ad buy exposes Pearce’s record of putting the interests of the oil and gas industry over the health and wellbeing of New Mexicans
SANTA FE, N.M. – CVNM Verde Voters Fund today announced Republican nominee for New Mexico Governor Representative Steve Pearce’s selection for the “Dirty Dozen in the States” list. Modeled after LCV Victory Fund’s federal “Dirty Dozen,” the state version highlights 12 of the most anti-environment state-level candidates from around the country who state LCVs are working to defeat for the 2018 election cycle.
In addition, Verde Voters Fund is launching a $500,000 ad campaign exposing Pearce’s record of putting the interests of the oil and gas industry over the health and well-being of New Mexicans. The first ad of the series, “Legacy,” will run in the Albuquerque television market starting today.

CVNM Verde Voters Fund has been a vocal leader on conservation and environmental issues during election cycles. Due to the importance of this race, our voice, and the voices of thousands of New Mexicans across the state that support our cause, will be heard louder than ever. In addition to prioritizing polluter profits over New Mexicans’ health, Pearce has also fought to shrink and privatize our national monuments, which could also make them available to further drilling.
Pearce has a proven track record of siding with a single industry above all other concerns, even in the face of potential health risk to the people of New Mexico. He has done so while the oil and gas industry has contributed millions of dollars to his campaigns.
“New Mexicans care deeply about the health and wellbeing of our people as well as our treasured public lands and national monuments,” says Demis Foster, Conservation Voters New Mexico Executive Director. “But when it comes to protecting New Mexico’s open spaces and national monuments while also creating more jobs and fighting to improve the health of our families, Steve Pearce has failed. There is only one choice for Governor to protect a healthy New Mexico, and that’s Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham.”
Members of Dirty Dozen in the States have consistently sided against the environment and — regardless of party affiliation — are running in races in which an LCV state affiliate has a serious chance to affect the outcome.

I’ve hunted New Mexico’s public lands since I was 12 years old.
The big oil and gas companies treat these lands like they’re theirs to do with whatever they want. But really, they belong to our kids and grandkids.
Steve Pearce took millions in contributions from the oil and gas industry… and pushed to open more land to drilling.
Pearce even voted to make it easier to privatize our public lands and shrink our national monuments.
I don’t trust Steve Pearce to protect New Mexico, and neither should you.
