Santa Fe, N.M. – In response to Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s amendment to remove the anti-BLM methane rule rider language from the BLM appropriations in the House of Representatives, CVNM Political and Legislative Director Ben Shelton released the following statement:
“We applaud Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham for her leadership and offering an amendment to strip a rider that would block the U.S. Bureau of Land Management’s methane waste rule,” Ben Shelton, CVNM Political and Legislative Director said. “Cutting methane waste is critical to ensure we stop wasting publicly-owned energy resources, protect taxpayers, and clean up our air.”
Methane is the primary component of natural gas. Cutting methane waste will also reduce other air pollutants such as ozone-forming volatile organic compounds and toxic emissions such as benzene.
