Following the Trump Administration’s announcement to rollback the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, Demis Foster, Executive Director of the Conservation Voters New Mexico (CVNM) family of organizations, released the following statement:
“CVNM stands in support of New Mexico’s immigrant communities and families, and the many volunteers and supporters of our organization that are themselves DREAMers and DACA recipients. We strongly oppose the Trump administration rollback of these important protections. We must ensure that all people who call this country home have the safety, stability and legal means to fully participate and contribute to their communities and our nation.
“The immigrant rights and environmental justice movements are interconnected: immigrants and communities of color often shoulder the highest burdens of environmental pollution from the impacts of climate change to polluted air and water. All families, regardless of immigration status, deserve to have clean water to drink, clean air to breathe, and resilient lands to live upon. We are committed to addressing the impacts of environmental pollution and racism experienced by New Mexico’s families.”
The CVNM family of organizations includes Conservation Voters New Mexico and Conservation Voters New Mexico Education Fund and its dedicated organizing programs that work with communities directly impacted by pollution, many of which are communities of color and immigrant families.
