CVNM Honors Rep. Brian Egolf for His Commitment to Conservation in New Mexico

(Santa Fe, NM)— Conservation Voters New Mexico (CVNM) will present House Democratic Leader Brian Egolf with the 2015 Luminaria Award for his bold leadership in protecting New Mexico’s land, air, water and healthy communities at CVNM’s 9th annual legislative reception on Feb. 10. CVNM will also unveil its 2015 Legislative Priorities, available online at CVNM.org.
“House Democratic Leader Brian Egolf has represented his district’s conservation values since day one as state representative for district 47. It is a distinct honor to recognize him for his commitment to ensure that New Mexico’s families and communities have clean air, land and water,” said Victor Reyes, CVNM Legislative Director.
“I am honored to receive the 2015 Luminaria Award from CVNM. Protecting our future means preserving our air, land and water for today’s children and future generations,” House Democratic Brian Egolf said. “We make our communities safer when we protect our resources, and I have been proud to work with CVNM in this effort. We can create a sustainable economy that preserves New Mexico’s diverse and culturally rich communities while bringing good paying jobs to our state that don’t pollute the air we breathe and the water we drink.”
Rep. Egolf has a 100% lifetime score on CVNM’s Conservation Scorecard. The Scorecard provides objective, non-partisan information about the conservation voting records of all members of the legislature.
“Holding elected officials accountable for their actions is a cornerstone of our work, and that includes recognizing when a champion stands up for their constituents’ values,” said Demis Foster, CVNM Executive Director. “Rep. Egolf has been key to ensuring that commonsense safeguards receive the debate they deserve in the New Mexico Legislature.”
Rep. Egolf served as chair of the House Energy and Natural Resources Committee from 2011 to 2015 and has taken a pro-conservation position on key pieces of legislation since his election in 2009, such as:

• cultural property registration and acquisition (HB 422/SB 421, 2011),
• consolidated environmental review act (HB 520, 2009 & HB 458, 2013),
• oil and gas financial assurance (HB 286, 2013), and
• adequate subdivision water supplies and subdivision water permits (SB 479 & SB 480, 2013)
• economic development utility rates (HB 296/SB 283, 2014)
