Description
HB297 represented a dangerous effort to undermine safeguards on inactive oil and gas wells that are a major vector for contamination of groundwater—on which 9 out of 10 New Mexicans depend for our drinking water. If enacted, oil and gas companies would have been able to shirk their responsibilities to ensure that inactive wells are sound, and don’t pose any environmental or public health threats.
